Here in the good ol’ US of A we have standards. They’re very good. And we understand how long a foot is, how much a pound weighs and just remember there are twelve inches in a foot, 5,280 feet in a mile and inches subdivide into eights, sixteenths and thirty-seconds of an inch. Ask us how far a kilometer is, and you’ll get a weird stare. But the rest of the world decided they wanted a more unified standard of measure. One that uses a logical base-ten system based on nature. So it’s probably pretty good, and might have been around for a couple hundred years by now in some form or another. But here in ‘Merica, we’ve got standards that have been set since the early 1800’s and trace their lineage back to the Romans.
Now, about that Metric system. Well, we keep finding it on all these things made overseas and now even all the the modern cars seem to use it. So there’s probably a place in the world for a company making tools for these metric nuts and bolts. We could call it the Metric Wrench Company. And you know what? Everything they make is metric based and nothing is standard.
